Calculated Moves partnered with The Zone Summer Camp in Hazel Crest, Illinois to deliver a chess-based youth development program that combined gameplay with real-life strategy. Students learned the fundamentals of chess while engaging in guided discussions about purpose, decision-making, and planning for goals beyond the board. The program fostered strong peer collaboration and high engagement, with participants continuing to play and apply strategies even after sessions ended. Following the success of the summer program, Calculated Moves was invited to extend its work into ongoing after-school programming, demonstrating the program’s value as a meaningful, scalable youth development experience.
